On October 22, 2025, the Consulate General of Portugal in Seville hosted the public presentation of the Museu de Arte e Atrelagem de Gavião (MAAG), in an initiative promoted by the Municipal Chamber of Gavião and the Entidade Regional de Turismo do Alentejo e Ribatejo, with the support of Turismo de Portugal.
The event brought together the main Portuguese and Spanish entities linked to equestrian culture, carriage driving and the enhancement of Iberian heritage, including: the Consulate General of Portugal in Seville, the Companhia das Lezírias / Coudelaria de Alter – Alter Real, the Associação Portuguesa de Atrelagem, the Fundación Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre, the Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestre de Jerez, the Real Club de Enganches de Andalucía, the Club de Enganches de Jerez, the Club de Carruajes de Córdoba, Córdoba Ecuestre, the Casa Medina Sidonia, the Delegación de Turismo de Portugal en Madrid and the company DHD Dorantes SL, in addition to other Iberian cultural and tourist representations.
During the session, the various interventions highlighted the role of MAAG as a pioneering project in Portugal, dedicated to the contemporary interpretation of carriage driving and the promotion of equestrian art as a shared heritage between Portugal and Spain.
The initiative represented a historic moment of Iberian cultural cooperation, reinforcing the commitment between public institutions, foundations, collectors and tourism entities around the preservation of equestrian heritage and the importance of creating new international equestrian tourism experiences, where traditional knowledge and unique experiences constitute true bets for the future.
The event concluded with a tasting of the flavors of Gavião and Alentejo, which underscored the spirit of Portuguese hospitality and the value of gastronomy as a cultural expression of the territory.
The Museu de Arte e Atrelagem de Gavião (MAAG) is thus consolidated as a new axis of dialogue and valorization of the Iberian tradition, reinforcing the position of Gavião and the Alentejo as reference destinations in culture, heritage, tourism and equestrian art.
