Choosing a good coach is essential to guarantee proper preparation and, consequently, good results when competing.
The teacher is responsible for planning the training of the partnership in question. They must carry out an initial assessment of both, conducting a retrospective analysis to determine their achievements and previous training, before proceeding with a prospective analysis to determine their performance potential and the extent to which the set objectives can be reached.
The trainer sets short-, medium- and long-term goals, categorising these into physical, technical, tactical and psychological objectives. Good results require planning, perseverance, knowledge and sound holistic management of the stable (feeding, shoeing, choice of arenas, selection of competitions...). A good trainer is much more than the person who sets the exercises; they are also the coach who motivates and ensures that the entire machinery of the stable runs outstandingly.
The potential of the training will depend on each athlete and their horse, as well as the dedication they are going to give to this sport. There are two possibilities of change regarding sports performance, which are an increase and a decrease, or a third option, which would be that no type of change occurs.
The first step is to work with a good coach. From there, trusting them and following their guidelines, progress and success are bound to come.
