The young Spanish female rider Paola Alea Caballero is facing a major change in her sporting and personal career.
After a lifetime connected to the same area, the showjumper has announced her move to Milan, where she will continue her studies and be able to further her career in showjumping alongside her inseparable Indigo.
The female rider has explained that the decision comes after a long period of reflection and work, with the aim of finding an option that allows her to continue growing both personally and athletically, and at the same time, guarantee the welfare of her horse.
“Today we are finally bringing a long chapter to a close to start another with great excitement. After a lifetime in the same place, it's time to take off,” the Spanish woman shared when announcing the news.
In Milan, she will combine her third year of university with daily work alongside Indigo at a new facility, an opportunity with which she hopes to continue learning and progressing in her training as a rider.
The change comes after an especially significant summer for the pair. Last August, Paola Alea Caballero competed with Indigo in her first 1.50-metre Grand Prix, a height that marked a new step in her sporting progression. The competition also had a special element as it was held at home, and the pair completed an excellent round.
Following that experience, the female rider highlighted in particular the role of her horse: “Jumping my first 1.50-metre Grand Prix at home is something unforgettable. Indigo gave everything for me and finished with a lovely clear round. I am so grateful to have him by my side.” A partner who, at 18 years of age, continues to demonstrate his experience and competitiveness in the arena.
Now the two of them are embarking on a completely different adventure together. Paola recognises the difficulty involved in moving to another country and doing so, furthermore, with a horse, but she is facing the change with excitement and the intention of enjoying a phase that she considers essential to continue growing.
“After a lot of hard work, I can say that I am going to fulfil another dream,” says the rider, who also wanted to thank everyone for the support and advice received throughout the process. “I am leaving many people behind whom I will miss a great deal, but I am also very excited about this new opportunity, really looking forward to enjoying it and being in a much healthier and calmer environment, always thinking of Indigo's welfare.”.
Paola Alea Caballero has also dedicated particularly emotional words to her horse before starting this new stage in Italy: “I feel super lucky to have him as a companion and that he can also continue to accompany me on my journey, wherever that may be.”.
Milan will thus be the next venue for Paola Alea Caballero and Indigo, a partnership that recently took a major sporting step this summer with their debut in a 1.50-metre Grand Prix and which is now beginning a new chapter with its sights set on continuing to learn and grow within show jumping.
