The partnership of the Irishman Daniel Coyle and the experienced Farrel delivered a masterful performance this Friday at CHIO Aachen 2026, winning the first qualifier for the Rolex Grand Prix CSI5* held over 1.55 metres in the legendary German stadium.
Against 49 combinations of the highest world level, Farrel once again demonstrated why he remains one of the most reliable and competitive horses on the international circuit. The veteran 16-year-old KWPN, a son of Cardento 933 and Stakkato, completed a flawless and lightning-fast round to stop the clock at 70.99 seconds, a time impossible for the rest of the participants to beat.
The Brazilian showjumper Luciana Diniz, riding Vertigo du Desert, was second in 71.47 seconds, while the Frenchman Kevin Staut completed the podium riding Feline de Hus HDC in 71.57.
Beyond the victory, the event had a strong emotional component for Coyle, who made no secret of the special connection he shares with Farrel. The Irishman stated after the competition that the horse “has been his best friend and greatest support over the last few years”, also recalling the long recovery process following a period when there were even fears for his sporting future.
The course designed by Frank Rothenberger demanded precision, rhythm and bravery over the enormous grass arena of Aachen, one of the most prestigious venues in the equestrian world. Farrel responded with experience and a cool head, confirming that he remains a specialist for the major events.
With this victory, Daniel Coyle and Farrel place themselves among the major favourites for Sunday's Rolex Grand Prix, in an edition of CHIO Aachen that brings together the global elite of international show jumping.
