Spanish dressage bids farewell to Grandioso III, the Purebred Spanish horse that accompanied Daniel Martín Dockx in some of the most important moments of his sporting career and went on to represent Spain in two editions of the Olympic Games.
The rider himself announced the horse's death via his social media channels with an emotional message in which he wanted to thank him for everything they had experienced and learned by his side.
«If today I am who I am, I largely owe it to you. Thank you for teaching me so much, thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn and thank you for opening the doors to a world that I often dreamed of, but never thought I could reach,» wrote Martín Dockx.
Born in 1999, Grandioso III was a PRE stallion, son of Adelante and Sevillana XXXI, by Sevillano IX.
Alongside Daniel Martín Dockx, he competed at the London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.
The partnership also flew the flag for Spain at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, as well as competing in the 2013 and 2015 European Championships.
The rider explained that Grandioso does not leave him alone and that, before leaving, he made sure to leave him «some offspring» that he will try to develop with the same commitment and dedication.
«Now rest in peace, my friend, and wait for me, for one day we shall gallop the skies together once more,» concluded Daniel Martín Dockx in his farewell.
