The 70th Cuenca National Show Jumping Competition kicked off this Thursday for four days of competition at La Hípica Fairground.
The opening day of the CSN3* San Julián featured four classes, ranging from 1.10 to 1.35 metres, producing the first standout names of an edition that runs until Sunday 30 August.
The competition began with the PAVO Trophy, held at a height of 1.10 metres. Yara Miranzo Herraiz took the win with Leveka V/D Werwtherbach, completing a clear round in 60.60 seconds. Second place went to Carolina Sandoval Muñoz with Oh My God, also with zero penalties and a time of 63.77 seconds, whilst Lt Alberto Castellanos Ruiz rounded off the podium with Untana YM after also finishing clear in 64.59 seconds.
Next came the SEMALOR Trophy, over 1.20 metres, where Álvaro Castro Román was the main protagonist by taking the top two positions in the standings. He took the win with Couraçao de Emiralia, with a clear round in 60.16 seconds, and finished second with Gangster d’Estive, also with zero faults, in 62.84 seconds. Carlos Zárate Posadas and Saja de Quijas completed the podium with another clear round in 64.16 seconds.
The height was raised to 1.30 metres for the MAHOU Trophy, held under a special two-phase competition. Sara Loumaye and Be Happy Liberte won after completing both phases without penalties and stopping the clock in the second phase at 28.37 seconds. Albert Hermoso Farras, riding Jackpot El Mazel, finished second with zero faults and 30.47 seconds, whilst Juan de la Cruz Queipo de Llano Álvarez de Toledo took third position with Tanaka, also clear and with a time of 31.18 seconds.
The opening day concluded with the COCA COLA Trophy, the highest class of the day, set at 1.35 metres. Sara Loumaye once again climbed to the top of the podium, this time with Pinoccio, after posting a clear round in 53.46 seconds. Álvaro Castro Román continued his good run of form by finishing second with Dali du Rouet, also with zero penalties, in 54.09 seconds. Third place went to Lorenzo Pradas Freire and Merner, who finished clear in 55.46 seconds.
The CSN3* San Julián de Cuenca will continue over the coming days with new events at La Hípica Fairground, as part of a particularly significant edition marking seventy years of history for the Cuenca National Show Jumping Competition.
