Spanish equestrian Fernando Sarasola brought his international career to an end in 2006, thereby concluding a distinguished career in top-level show jumping that established him as one of the great figures on the Spanish scene.
Fernando Sarasola, a regular in major international competitions for years, and the only Spanish rider to have completed three clear rounds at the Olympic Games, who competed throughout his career in four European Championships in the senior category, as well as competing in two editions of the World Equestrian Games. His Olympic presence also marked milestones, with two appearances, particularly highlighting his performance in Atlanta 1996, where he achieved a meritorious eleventh place in the individual classification.
The 2006 season was the last in which the rider competed on the international circuit. During that year, Sarasola participated in various international show jumping competitions (CSI), including relevant events such as the Sunshine Tour, as well as competitions in Barcelona, San Sebastián, Santander and Gijón.
In that final stage, the Spaniard relied on two main horses: “Calvin 36” and “Julia des Brumes”, with which he faced his final tests in international competition.
With his retirement, Fernando Sarasola brought to a close an era marked by consistency and a constant presence in the equestrian elite, leaving behind a career full of highlights in the recent history of Spanish show jumping.
Currently, Fernando Sarasola remains active in the equestrian world, managing his estate, Yeguada El Espinar (Segovia), where professionals live alongside their sport horses, as well as other retired equines or those in rest periods.
