For years it seemed out of reach, but Balou du Reventon Z is finally available to European breeders once again. Studfarm Zangersheide has announced the addition of one of modern showjumping's most sought-after stallions to its facilities in Lanaken, marking a highly significant milestone for sport horse breeding in Europe.<\/p>\n
The legendary horse will be available with fresh semen, a circumstance especially awaited by breeders from across the continent.<\/p>\n
Balou du Reventon Z has built an exceptional sporting career characterised by consistency, longevity and performance at the highest level. Since his international debut in 2014, he has shone in Grand Prix and World Cup classes with various top-level riders. Alongside Liubov Kochetova, he achieved notable international results, including victory in the CSI4* Grand Prix of Wellington in 2016. Later, under the saddle of Darragh Kenny, he reached new sporting heights with triumphs such as the CSI5* Grand Prix of Knokke in 2019, as well as a win in the Longines Global Champions Tour of Chantilly and a decisive performance in Ireland's victory at the FEI Nations Cup final in Barcelona.<\/p>\n
Later, Balou du Reventon Z continued competing at the highest level with Brian Moggre, with whom he achieved significant results in CSI5* classes, including the Sopot Grand Prix and the Aachen Nations Cup, as well as a second-place finish in the prestigious Aachen Rolex Grand Prix. In recognition of his extraordinary season, he was voted USEF International Horse of the Year in 2021. His competitive career culminated in representing the United States at the 2022 FEI World Equestrian Games in Herning, before Harry Charles took over the reins, adding a new chapter to his distinguished career.<\/p>\n
Son of the influential Cornet Obolensky, currently number one in the FEI WBFSH sire ranking, and the mare Georgia, by Continue, Balou du Reventon Z boasts top-tier breeding. On the dam's side, he is a maternal half-brother to prominent Grand Prix horses and approved stallions, such as Chatinue and Balou du Rouet, and his family has demonstrated a remarkable ability for genetic transmission, producing elite horses for international sport.<\/p>\n
Although his career was focused primarily on top-level competition, his impact as a sire is already significant. Balou du Reventon Z has produced more than fifteen approved sons and daughters, including Crack Balou, who competes successfully at 1.60-metre level with Emanuele Gaudiano. Numerous descendants of his stand out in top-level classes, being characterised by their intelligence, a quality canter, great reflexes and a courage inherited from their sire. His progeny has also had a prominent presence in international auctions, such as Brize de Regor Z, knocked down for 78,000 euros at the 2024 Zangersheide Quality Auction.<\/p>\n
Studfarm Zangersheide has expressed its deep gratitude to owner Ann Thompson for the trust placed in the centre for the care of her most valuable stallion and for allowing European breeders access once again to one of the most sought-after bloodlines in international show jumping. Balou du Reventon Z will be available with fresh semen at a stud fee of 2,500 euros, opening up a unique opportunity for breeding programmes focused on high-level sporting performance.<\/p>\n
